National Chinese American Pink Ribbon Conference: https://cchccare.cchc.org/pinkribbon/seminar/ The first of its kind National Pink Ribbon Breast cancer conference on 5/16-18 at the Four Points Sheraton in Flushing, NY is geared towards breast cancer survivors. The topics discussed will focus on survivorship issues. - Community Breast Cancer Educational Forum: https://cchccare.cchc.org/pinkribbon/workshop/ The 3 community talks in Manhattan, Brooklyn and Flushing are geared towards the general public to increase breast cancer screening and awareness. From Dr. Steven Cai: Dear CAMS colleagues, Dr. Jaime Yun was a very good friend who took me under his wing early on in my career and also more recently over the last 3 years when I moved to his neighborhood in Long Island. As we near the 1 year anniversary of his untimely passing, Tyan, Chris and Lauren wanted me to share this with the Chinese physician community that knew Jaime well. Jaime was a passionate champion of Lacrosse for his children and never missed a game for her daughter, Lauren who played for Columbia Lions. When he found out my daughter was interested in this sport, without hesitation shared all the ins and outs of the sport with me and my family. The team would like to honor his legacy at Columbia by creating an award in his name. If you find it in your heart and knew Dr. Jaime Yun well please follow the link below to contribute. Thanks in advance for your kindness to the Yun family. best regards, Steve Cai Give Now - Columbia Lacrosse - From Columbia Lacrosse Head Coach, Anne Murray: We are creating a team award in memory of Dr. Jaime Yun ‘89CC, father of team captain Lauren Yun ‘24CC. Dr. Yun tragically lost his life this past summer and it has deeply affected the Lions Lacrosse Family. Players and parents showed up in droves to support Lauren, her mom Tyan, her brother Chris, and the rest of the Yun family in their moment of need. So many have continued to do so over this year and it has been incredibly heart-warming to see the love and support permeate all that this group does. It was fellow parents from the 2024 graduating class who immediately inquired about finding a way for this family to honor Dr. Yun’s memory. Below is the description of the award. Dr. Jaime Yun ‘89CC - Heart Award Awarded annually to the Columbia Lacrosse player who exudes true selflessness in support of the team and the program. Given in honor of Dr. Jaime Yun ‘89CC, a cardiovascular surgeon, Columbia University alumnus and proud parent of Lauren Yun ‘24CC. Dr. Yun tragically lost his life the summer before his daughter’s senior season on the team. He was a passionate supporter of Columbia Lacrosse with a strong vocal presence cheering on the team from the stands, and was the first one to show his support for the players with a smile and a bear hug following a game. Dr. Yun encouraged players to give it their all and to play with heart. He loved seeing the lions out-hustle their opponents while fighting for the draw, ground balls, caused turnovers, and especially finding another gear while sprinting down the field. He admired those who demonstrated a passion for the game and an ability to spark the team with their spirit both on and off the field. This award will be given annually to an upperclassmen who fights for this team with a loud heart. Voted on by their teammates, they will exemplify the values Dr. Yun most admired and gave their whole self to teammates and this program. In naming the award, we have set a fundraising goal of $5,000 that will not only ensure the giving of the award itself, but also a team activity in vein of reflection, connection, and respite. In memory of Dr. Yun and the values he held dear, the team will take a day to embark on an activity that will allow these young women to slow down, appreciate each other, and fill their hearts. The funds raised will be carried over so that we can ensure this activity will happen each year. You can contribute towards this goal by following the link below. Please select Annual Gift - Lacrosse”, designate your amount, note the gift is in memory of Dr. Jaime Yun, and include a message. Give Now - Columbia Lacrosse The award will be given this year for the first time and it is going to become a cornerstone of this program. Please join the Lions Family in keeping the memory of Dr. Yun alive and well in all of our hearts. The Department also released a new data analysis which found that, between 2015 and 2019, the Department’s anti-smoking media campaigns helped nearly 8,000 New Yorkers stop smoking. These campaigns not only improved New Yorkers’ health but were also highly cost-effective. Every $1 spent on a media campaign led to $32 in cost savings for the health care system and society because of people becoming inspired to quit and avoiding tobacco-related health issues. Our anti-smoking campaigns have saved lives – and this year an additional 12,000 New Yorkers will celebrate a birthday that would otherwise have been lost,” said Health Commissioner Dr. Dave A. Chokshi. I urge all New Yorkers who smoke to consider quitting today, there’s never a better time than right now.” The Department’s anti-smoking campaigns led to almost 8,000 successful quits and averted more than 1,000 deaths. They created an estimated $864 million in total cost savings including $26,000 for every premature death avoided, $2,200 for every birthday saved, and $2,000 for every year of good health gained. You Quit, You Win!” is running citywide via television ads, digital liveboards in the subways, bus shelters, newspapers, and the Staten Island Ferry. Tobacco use can cause stroke, diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, vascular disease, and more than 10 types of cancer. Using medications, such as nicotine patches and...
